Nearly two decades ago, this distinctive five-level home demonstrated how thoughtful design, durable building systems and passive-solar principles could work together to create an energy-efficient custom residence.

Constructed by Hedger Constructions using ZEGO 200 Series HomeFORM, with ZEGO Z-Board supplied for the cladding, the home was designed around sustainable energy principles and to blend naturally with its surrounding landscape.

The project incorporated a range of energy-conscious features, including double-glazed PVC-framed windows, suspended concrete slabs and an internal stone wall providing additional thermal mass. Solar hot water boosted by a combustion stove, thermostatically vented ceiling spaces, passive-solar shading to northern windows and a worm-farm system for sewerage and waste further contributed to the home’s sustainable design.

Compartmentalised living and carefully zoned areas were also used to help reduce energy consumption and heating requirements throughout the substantial five-level residence.

The project received three industry recognitions in 2006:

  • HIA Energy Efficient Custom Built Home
  • MBAV Best Custom Home Over $500,000 – Northeast Region
  • Runner-Up HIA Custom Built Home Over $350,000 – Northeast Region

This award-winning home remains a valuable example of how ZEGO building systems have supported energy-efficient and environmentally responsive residential construction for decades.
